Celebrating Jimmy Carter's Remarkable Legacy: 99th Birthday Bash and Enduring Impact

Americans celebrated the 99th birthday of former President Jimmy Carter over the weekend.

The White House displayed a wooden cake with 39 candles on its north lawn in honor of Carter, who served as the 39th president from January 1977 to January 1981.

The Carter library in Georgia hosted a public party featuring cake, games, trivia, and a food truck.

The Jimmy Carter Presidential Library & Museum in Atlanta moved the celebration to Saturday due to the possibility of a government shutdown starting on Sunday.

Carter, born on October 1, 1924, holds the record for living the longest among former U.S. presidents after leaving office.

He is widely admired for his post-presidential humanitarian work and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.

Despite facing health challenges, including melanoma, Carter chose hospice care but has shown remarkable resilience.

Carter and his wife, Rosalynn Carter, who has dementia, recently attended the annual peanut festival in their hometown of Plains, Georgia, and he is currently at home, at peace, according to his grandson Jason.
