BROOKLYN, N.Y. (AffairsTime) — A late-night birthday celebration in Brooklyn turned into a scene of chaos and fear after six teenagers were shot in a mass shooting on Atlantic Avenue early Sunday morning, according to police.
The gunfire erupted just after 1 a.m., when a group of teenagers — ranging in age from 15 to 17 years old — were gathered to celebrate a 16th birthday, authorities said. What began as a joyful occasion quickly turned tragic when shots were fired inside the location.
Police confirmed that six teenagers were injured, including one teenage girl who was shot in the chest and hips. All victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Their current conditions have not been publicly released.
Adding to the shock of the incident, sources told PIX11 News that children as young as 10 years old were present at the gathering at the time of the shooting, raising serious concerns about safety and supervision.
As of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made. Investigators believe two suspects were involved and are actively working to identify and locate them. Police have not released descriptions of the individuals being sought.
City leaders are urging the public to assist law enforcement as the investigation continues.
“I am deeply disturbed by the shooting on Atlantic Avenue,” said City Council Member Yusef Salaam in a statement. “We must continue to invest in prevention, youth support, and accountability to keep our communities safe.”
The shooting has once again intensified conversations around youth violence, gun access, and community safety in New York City — particularly as warmer months approach, when similar incidents historically increase.
Authorities are asking anyone with information, surveillance footage, or firsthand accounts to contact the NYPD immediately. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
