In a historic first, the make-believe musical group, Daisy Jones & the Six, has skyrocketed to the top of the iTunes charts. The band’s meteoric rise is largely due to the buzz surrounding the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling novel.

The series, produced by Reese Witherspoon, offers a tantalizing peek into the tumultuous lives of a popular rock band in a Fleetwood Mac-inspired rockumentary format. It’s no surprise that this hyped-up faux band has struck a chord with audiences, thanks to its compelling mix of sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll, complete with anguished love triangles.

Daisy Jones & the Six has certainly proven that they have what it takes to climb to the top of the charts, even if they only exist in the realm of fiction.

Amazon’s highly anticipated series, “Daisy Jones & the Six,” made a grand entrance on Thursday, accompanied by the release of its eponymous album, “Aurora.” Author Taylor Jenkins Reid expressed her excitement over the album’s debut, praising it as a magnificent and evocative record that perfectly captures the band’s highs and lows.

In her statement, Reid went on to describe the album as a snapshot of an intoxicating and perilous time, one that tantalizes with its fleeting beauty. She couldn’t have been more thrilled with the album’s release, proclaiming that Daisy Jones and the Six are more magnificent than even her wildest imaginings.

The fictional band Daisy Jones & the Six caused a stir on the real-life music charts shortly after the release of both their series and album. Chart Data broke the news on Twitter, announcing that “AURORA,” the album created for the show, had rocketed to the top of the US iTunes charts.

The show’s two leads, Riley Keough and Sam Claflin portray Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, respectively, with neither having sung professionally before. Keough recently confessed at a screening of the series that she fibbed about her vocal abilities during the audition process.

Despite this little white lie, Keough and Claflin delivered electrifying performances that brought the show’s characters to life.

According to co-creator and co-showrunner Scott Neustadter, the success of “Daisy Jones & the Six” hinged on convincing viewers that the band was real, which meant putting the actors through a rigorous 18-month “band camp” before filming began.

Music supervisor Frankie Pine and music consultant Tony Berg led the charge, guiding the cast as they practiced their instruments, learned new songs, and honed their stage presence. Originally planned to last only a few weeks, the COVID pandemic caused the band camp to stretch out for a year and a half.

However, this extended period allowed the actors to bond like real bandmates and become authentic rock bands by the time filming finally began in the fall of 2021. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the series and album have both achieved remarkable success and captured the hearts of audiences everywhere.

The first three episodes of Daisy Jones & The Six are available to stream on Prime Video now. New episodes premiere each Friday through March 24.
